Vermont 45-Year-Old Killed While Crossing Route 1 In Saugus: Police

A 45-year-old man from Vermont has died after being hit by a car on Route 1 in Saugus, authorities said.

Carlos Vasquez, of Bennington, was crossing the street from the Burger King near the Essex Street exit when he was hit just after 10 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 23, Massachusetts State Police said. 

Vasquez was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries where he later died, police said. Initial investigation revealed Vasquez was trying to meet his girlfriend on other the other side. 

The driver, a 60-year-old man from Wakefield, stayed on scene. No charged have been filed and the investigation is ongoing.
